Memory verse: “And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people,” Revelation 14:6 - 10
The year was 1818, when William Miller an ex-soldier, farmer, began preaching on the Book of Daniel. He studied much and saw the 2300 day prophecy of Daniel 8:14. “Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed.” THIS Baptist scholar, William Miller began a verse by verse study of The Bible; however, he did not fully understand The Sanctuary in Heaven or what was to take place in 1844, at the end of the 2300 days or years. His thinking was that the sanctuary might need to be cleansed and that Christ was coming to take His people to Heaven. This message went around the world in a hurry and people were looking for Christ return in October 22, 1844. Thousands joined him, they thought this day would be the Day of Atonement, by The Jewish calendar, but unfortunately for them, Jesus didn’t come. Many were so disappointed they gave up their walk with God. Some went back to The Bible, for a better understanding of where they went wrong. With much prayer and study of Leviticus, Daniel, and Hebrews, this group realized their mistake. They sanctuary that needed to be cleansed was not this earth, but The Heavenly Sanctuary with its records of sin. They learned that when the judgment began, Jesus began His final work as our High Priest before the ancient days. That October 22, 1844, Jesus began the final phase of His ministry before The Father as The High Priest in The Heavenly Sanctuary. He would go over “The Record Books”. Christ’s work in The Heavenly Sanctuary is to determine who has accepted His sacrifice for their sins and have lived for all to see, that we are a child of God. He pleads His Blood before The Father for our confessed sins. William Miller’s preaching, as well as the lessons we are studying, are all a part of taking The Gospel to the world. At that time, William Miller preached in North America. Three hundred preachers took The Message to England. Joseph Wolff went as a missionary to the world to convert the Jews. This work was done in seventeen countries and fourteen languages. Lacunza, a priest in South America, gave The Message in Latin America, under the name Ben-Ezra. Children in Scandinavian countries under the influence of The Holy Spirit, spoke to audiences of Jesus’ soon return. There was also a boy preacher in Bohemia, and children spoke in many other parts of the earth.
1: What is the message that announces the cleansing of the sanctuary? Revelation 14:6, 7 “And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people, Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the _________ of his _____________ is _________: and ___________ ________ that _________ heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.” Who was to be worshiped? He was the one who had made all thins, Earth, Sea, and Waters. This message went to all the world that the “Judgment is come,” in verse 7
2: What took place in Heaven at the judgment? We see this in Daniel 7:9, 10. “I beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the _________ of _________ did ________, whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of his head like the pure wool: his ___________ was like the fiery flame, and his wheels as ___________ _______. A fiery stream issued and came forth from before him: ___________ ____________ ministered unto him, and _______ ___________ times ten thousand stood before him: the ___________ was _________, and the __________ were __________.” Daniel 7:9, 10 “Thus was presented to the prophet's vision the great and solemn day when the characters and the lives of men should pass in review before the Judge of all the earth, and to every man should be rendered "according to his works." The Ancient of Days is God the Father. Says the psalmist: "Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever Thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, Thou art God." Psalm 90:2. It is He, the source of all being, and the fountain of all law, that is to preside in the judgment. And holy angels as ministers and witnesses, in number "ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands," attend this great tribunal.” Great Controversy Pg. 439
3. Who is brought before the ancient of days? Daniel 7:13, 14. I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him. And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that __________ __________, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.”
4. What was Jesus’ part in the judgment? 1 John 2:1 “My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an ___________ with the ___________, Jesus Christ the righteous:” He makes intercession for us. His intercession is that of a spotless life. His wounded hands, feet and a side that was pierced. He pleads for fallen mankind. Our redemption was paid for, at an infinite cost. He pleads “My Blood is sufficient.” Here are some texts concerning a time of final judgment. Look these up and read them.

b. Psalms 96:13
c. Psalms 98:9
d. Ecclesiastes 3:17
e. Ecclesiastes 12:14
f. Acts 17:31
g. Acts 24:25
h. Romans 14:10
i. 2 Corinthians 5:10
j. Jude 14, 15
5. Is there a High Priest in The Heavenly Sanctuary? Yes or No? _____________ Hebrews 8:1, 2; “Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an _________ _________, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the ___________; A minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man.” Hebrews 9:11 “But ___________ being come an ______ ___________ of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building;”
6. What is the work of a High Priest? Hebrews 8:3 “For every high priest is ordained to ________ ________ and ____________: wherefore it is of necessity that this man have somewhat also to offer.”
7. What kind of ministry does Paul say it is? “But now hath he obtained a more __________ ___________, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises.” Hebrews 8:6
8. Through Christ’s Priesthood what kind of covenant does God make with us? “For this is the ___________ that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put _____ ________ into their ________, and __________ them in their _________: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:” Hebrews 8:10 “For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:”
9. When Jesus left this earth, where did He go? a. According to “The Type” – He would have gone to the first apartment of The Heavenly Sanctuary. Read Hebrews 8:5 and Hebrews 9: 1-5. b. John sees Christ walking among the candlesticks in Revelation 1:12 and Revelation 2:1. We have learned that the candlesticks were in The Holy (First) Apartment. c. Stephen says Him there at God’s Right Hand. Acts 7:55, 56. Read and compare Hebrews 10:12 “ But this man, after he had offered once sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;” d. Paul says that he entered The Holy Place. e. Hebrews 9:12 “Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the ________ _______, having obtained eternal redemption for us.”
Such was the service performed "unto the example and shadow of heavenly things." And what was done in type in the ministration of the earthly sanctuary, is done in reality in the ministration of the heavenly sanctuary. After his ascension, our Saviour began his work as our high priest. Says Paul, "Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into Heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us." Hebrews 9:24. “The ministration of the priest throughout the year in the first apartment of the sanctuary, "within the veil" which formed the door and separated the holy place from the outer court, represents the work of ministration upon which Christ entered at his ascension. It was the work of the priest in the daily ministration to present before God the blood of the sin-offering, also the incense which ascended with the prayers of Israel. So did Christ plead his blood before the Father in behalf of sinners, and present before him also, with the precious fragrance of his own righteousness, the prayers of penitent believers. Such was the work of ministration in the first apartment of the sanctuary in Heaven.” Great Controversy, Page 420 Hebrews 10:16 – 21 “This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them; And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more. Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin. Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh; And having an high priest over the house of God;” Once our sins are confessed, Jesus pleads His Blood to cover that sin. It says in verse 17, that God will remember them no more. We are able to enter into The Holiest, only by Jesus’ Blood. We have a High Priest there to bring our case before The Father. It is our only way in. When Christ went to Heaven, He went to The Holy Place of The Heavenly Sanctuary. We learned that the High Priest in the earthly sanctuary only went into The Most Holy Place, once a year. It was called “The Day of Atonement,” when the the sanctuary was cleansed of the sins that had been accumulating for the whole year. In 1844 Christ left The Holy Place in Heaven and moved into The Most Holy Place.
10. How long was Christ to officiate in the first apartment? Was any time ever mentioned with the cleansing of The Heavenly Sanctuary? Who was to officiate there until near the close of the Christian dispensation? Daniel 8:13, 14 “Then I heard one saint speaking, and another saint said unto that certain saint which spake, How long shall be the vision concerning the daily sacrifice, and the transgression of desolation, to give both the sanctuary and the host to be trodden under foot? And he said unto me, Unto _______ ___________ and __________ __________ days; then shall the ___________ be ___________.” We know from our study, it would have been in 1844.
11. Paul says he stayed there until near, “The end of the world”. He was to go there how many times? Hebrews 9:26 “For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now __________ in the _________ of the _________ hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.” He will stay there until all judgments are done, then He is ready for His saints. Hebrews 10:12 “But this man, after he had _________ one _________ for sins for ever, _________ on the ________ _______ of ________;” It was during the church of Philadelphia that this took place. Read Revelation 3:7 “And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, _____ that _______, and no ________ _________; and __________, and _______ man _________;” (The study of the history of the churches puts this time in 1844 A.D. This was during the period of, the church of Philadelphia. He opened the door to the Holiest (Most Holy) and shut the door to Te Holy Place. No man can open the door. We need to pray to Him knowing He is in The Most Holy Place, now.
“The intercession of Christ in man's behalf in the sanctuary above is as essential to the plan of salvation as was his death upon the cross. By his death he began that work which after his resurrection he ascended to complete in Heaven. We must by faith enter within the veil, "whither the forerunner is for us entered." HEBREWS 6:20. There the light from the cross of Calvary is reflected. There we may gain a clearer insight into the mysteries of redemption. The salvation of man is accomplished at an infinite expense to Heaven; the sacrifice made is equal to the broadest demands of the broken law of God. Jesus has opened the way to the Father's throne, and through his mediation the sincere desire of all who come to him in faith may be presented before God.” Great Controversy Pg. 489
We are not citizens of this world trying to make our wayto heaven; we are citizens of heaven trying to make our way through this world. That radical christian insight can be life changing. We are not to live so as to earn God's love, inherit heaven, and purchase our salvation . All those are given to us as gifts; gifts bought by Jesus on the cross and handed over to us. We are to live as God's redeemed, as heirs of heaven, and citizens of another land: The kingdom of God… We live as those who are on a journy home; a home we know will have the lights on and the door open and our Father waithing for us when we arrive. That means in all adversity our worship of God is joyful, our life is hopeful, our future is secure. There is nothing we can lose on earth that can rob us of the treasures God has given us and will give us. T.A.D.
